Psalm 23

Thank God for being our shepherd: ‘The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want’ (verse 1).

Think of some of the pleasant places he has led us to in a spiritual sense: ‘He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters’ (verse 2).
Recall when he led us out of backsliding: ‘He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake’ (verse 3).
Thank God for his protection and presence in dangerous situations: ‘Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me’ (verse 4).
Thank him for the different ways in which he helps us: ‘your rod and your staff, they comfort me’ (verse 4).
Remember that he will meet our spiritual needs abundantly: ‘You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows’ (verse 5).
Praise God for his ongoing grace: ‘Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life’ (verse 6).

Think about God’s eternal home: ‘and I shall dwell in the house of the Lordforever’ (verse 6).
