Three Newly Licensed Ministers Called To Western Isles

Three newly licensed Free Church ministers were called by Western Isles congregations last week. During a meeting of the Presbytery on 10th July, presided by Rev. Murdo Campbell of Barvas Free Church, Rev. David MacDonald accepted the congregations call to Back Free Church as the Assistant Minister. Due to family commitments, Rev. MacDonald was unable to attend in person but did indicate his acceptance through Skype. At 25, Rev. MacDonald is the youngest of the 3 ministers who have been called and is married to Jayne. On Wednesday 12th July, the Presbytery met in Leverburgh where the Harris Free Church congregation had called Rev. Mark MacLeod. Rev. Campbell again presided, and after all the formalities had been completed, Mark accepted the call to serve as the minister of the congregation. Rev. MacLeod is married to Eilidh and they have two children, Seumas and Kate. Rev. James MacIver of Stornoway Free Church presided over the final meeting of the Presbytery that week on the 13th July. The Kinloch congregation had resolved to call Rev. Paul Murray as their minister where he dutifully accepted. Rev. Murray and his wife Amanda have to young children, Mairi Belle and Eilidh Ceit. All three probationers have just completed their studies at Edinburgh Theological Seminary and graduated with distinction from the University of Glasgow. As David, Mark and Paul are all Probationers, Free Church practice requires that they are examined by the Presbytery before ordination. This is due to take place at the Presbytery meeting on the 25th July. Dates for ordination and induction are expected to be set at that meeting. Please pray for the newly licensed ministers, their families and the congregations as they take up their charge.
